FBI – Family Based Immigration for Immediate Relatives of US Citizens
Basic Requirements:
The following family members of U.S. Citizens qualify as Immediate Relatives:
- Spouses of U.S. Citizens
- Children of U.S. Citizens (under the age of 21 and not be married), and
- Parents of U.S. Citizens (provided U.S. Citizen is 21 years old or older).
Immediate Relatives of U.S. Citizens are the most preferred candidates for family based immigration. They, unlike other family members, do not have annual numerical limitation placed on the number of cases that can be approved. That means that the only waiting period associated with their petition once filed, is the time it takes the government to process the petition. These Immediate Family members of US Citizens are the fast processed family based permanent resident (green card) cases.
