How Many People Can Immigrate to the United States per Year?
According to the 1990 Immigration Act, the number of immigrants allowed into the United States every year is limited to 700,000. The act also allows for qualifying family members of legal immigrants to have easier immigration access. There are 50,000 slots devoted to “diversity immigrants” from countries with lower immigration rates, 40,000 dedicated to permanent job visas, and 65,000 dedicated to temporary job visas.
