A week and a half sweep conducted by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations lead to the arrests of 40 people who have violated the conditions of their student visas.

All but one person was arrested in Texas. According to the Times Record News, the sweep was conducted in order to prevent terrorists from exploiting the immigration system. Three of the arrested were also charged with falsifying their U.S. citizen, a felony.

Most of those apprehended were from Africa, others were from eastern Asia, western Europe, central America, and the Caribbean.
