Study finds immigrant female workers often sexually abused

Posted on May 22nd, 2012 No Comments

According to a new Human Rights Watch report, hundreds of thousands of immigrant female farm workers suffer from sexual harassment and violence at the hands of their employers and supervisors.

Nearly a third of the people interviewed told the organization that they had been sexually abused by their superiors or knew someone who had. About half of the immigrant agricultural workforce are undocumented, forcing the victims into silence at the risk of deportation.

The report states that since families usually work together in the fields or on a farm, reporting the abuse could risk the jobs of several loved ones.
