In the largest government sweep of its kind, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested more than 3,100 immigrants who were in the country illegally and had been convicted of serious crimes and considered threats to national security.

ICE officials specifically targeted immigrants who either crossed the border illegally or who had violated their legal status as immigrants. Criminals from over 116 countries were arrested in the sweep that took place in every state over six days.

More than a third of the people arrested had more than one criminal conviction. The most severe cases included sex crimes against minors, manslaughter, drug trafficking, murder, and gang affiliations.
