Man gets rejected for drivers’ license with Temporary Status

Posted on December 8th, 2010 No Comments

A man from Somali was rejected when he went to the Texas Department of Public Safety in order to replace his stolen drivers license.

The man, a Somali visitor, was rejected for having the status of temporary protected status, TPS. This refers to a type of U.S. residency granted to nationals of specific countries where the conditions in their country prevent them from returning safely.

An issue has arisen with immigrants that are working or studying legally in the U.S. when they go to get a drivers’ license because the language barrier prevents them from explaining their own immigration status correctly to the department officials.
