New immigration reform plan gaining popularity in Austin

Posted on November 12th, 2010 No Comments

New immigration laws could be approved in Texas after Republican lawmakers filed 15 different bills.

Although these bills are just proposals, many of them are gaining a lot of attention. A Republican representative from Houston has introduced a new bill that would change the voter identification requirements while at the polls.

The new requirement is that one photo I.D. or two other forms of I.D. must be shown. Other representatives are pushing for an Arizona-style immigration reform which would allow police to arrest illegal immigrants because the new law would make it illegal to “trespass” in Texas. Republicans are now holding 99 out of the 150 seats in the House of Representatives.
