Senate does not reach enough votes to pass Dream Act

Posted on October 8th, 2010 No Comments

Last week, the Senate did not reach enough votes for to pass the Dream Act, which has been sought after by Democrats for quite some time.

The measure was voted down 56-43 and will most likely be voted on again in the 111th session. The Dream Act would grant permanent residency to immigrants who were brought to the United States when they were children and have finished some college time or served in the armed forces.

Democrats attached this bill to an important spending bill, but Republicans blocked the bill with a procedural vote. Senate Democrats have said that it is slim that the bill will become a law this year.
