Lawmakers continue requests for increased troops at U.S. border

Posted on June 4th, 2010 No Comments

Immigration advocates are frustrated with the “games” that they believe is going on between lawmakers and President Obama. ¬†Last week, following a request for 6,000 more troops at the border by Arizona senator John McCain, President Obama announced the deployment of up to 1,2000 National Guardsmen to help with efforts along the border until more Border Patrol agents can be hired and trained. ¬†Advocates argue that such requests and actions are simply “election year posturing” and that the anti-immigration rhetoric only serves as a tool for lawmakers who are seeking re-election.
