TN Status
TN Status is a special type of non-immigrant status which is afforded to citizens of Mexico and Canada who are interested in living and working in the United States in certain qualifying capacities. Established by the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), TN Status is in many ways similar to the H-1B visa, although it has certain key differences.
If you or someone you love is interested in applying for TN Status in order to work in the United States, the Austin immigration attorneys of the Law Office of William Jang, PLLC may be able to help. To discuss your case with us in detail, please contact us today by calling 512-323-2333.
Understanding TN Status
TN Status allows workers in qualifying fields to work in the United States for three-year periods (prior to October of 2008, it was only for one-year periods). Similar to the H-1B visa, TN Status applies to professionals in certain fields. However, because it is a status rather than a visa, it is adjudicated at national borders. As such, it can also be revoked at the border.
Some of the fields to which TN Status can apply include:
- Accounting
- Science
- Architecture
- Education
- Law
- Mathematics
Many more professions apply, and discussing your situation with an experienced Austin immigration lawyer may help you decide if you can apply for TN Status.
